Chapter 23 was conceived by the band's founder Don Nafe. Shortly thereafter he recruited Al Wilmore and Mike Hemish into the band. Since then the band has been writing and recording new material, all the while auditioning musicians to fill out the band's line up. Pierre Lauzon was the first to hook up with the band in 1994 and in January of this year, after much cajoling and blackmailing Barry Meredith joined the band on bass.
Musically, Chapter 23 is definitely a commercial rock band, although people have commented on the diverse musical influences and styles in the band's material and dropped names like Deep Purple, Kansas and Queensryche when describing Chapter 23's music, there is one point everone agrees on, the music is excellent.
Lyrically, the band takes on all topics from welfare and war to politics and prejudice. They also delve into areas of the human experience like anxiety, lust, ego etc. The lyrics are insightful and at times amusing, and if nothing else, written from a completely different point of view.
In April of this year Chapter 23 released their long overdue CD entitled "flying in the face of conventional wisdom"
